Doc update

Another trip to the doctor today, and this time we got the works; an ultrasound, a non stress test (NST) and a chat with the doc. All went well on the ultrasound although no photos this time. Things are getting so cramped in there that we could hardly make out anything at all on the screen. I was hoping to spot some "clue" as to the gender, but no junk on view, or nothing discernible anyway, so we are none the wiser. We have a guesstimate on weight at 6lbs 14oz which puts us on track for just under 8lbs if we get to D Day June 12th.
Dr. Wise (seriously) was very complimentary about the results of the ultrasound and NST, saying that she would like to print the results in a text book and the baby looks perfect - apparently it's never too soon to be a proud parent!
Now we really should pack the overnight bags this weekend... just in case...

Memorial Weekend in Chicago

You might be forgiven for thinking we took a last minute break, but no! It's just us in the sun by Lake Michigan. Finally we had some nice weather and enjoyed going out for a stroll - or more like a waddle for me. It's slow going these days.
In theory there are only two more weekends to go until nugget gets here! Then all three of us can go for a stroll and I can have an ice cream too!

3 weeks to go!

As part of the extra monitoring for the gestational diabetes I had my second Non Stress Test (NST) today. I think it may be my favourite test so far. You just lay back and relax with two bands around the tummy, no needles involved. They monitor the heartbeat in relation to fetal movement, and my contractions. Heartbeat sounded good and contractions are pretty much non existent for now - I think that's a good thing.
Next week we get another scan - although I think things must be so cramped in there I wonder how they'll get a good shot - and another NST.

More presents and a prediction

When Patricia leaned over the desk this afternoon and said she wanted to talk to me I thought for sure I was in for some 'feedback' about my concentration levels. Well, I have been a little baby obsessed recently and pretty forgetful. I followed her upstairs in the office, and then... surprise! Colleagues from work had all gathered there with a giant cake and a big pile of presents! After I had berated Patricia for luring me there under false pretenses we polished off the delicious cake (from Bittersweet, Chicago, the place where Matt and I had got our wedding cake!) and I opened all the lovely presents.
The question remains - how did virtually the entire office manage to pull this off without me knowing? My spidey sense must really be off! Thanks everyone!

4 weeks to go from today... in other news; the waiter at lunch thinks for sure that we are having a boy. Apparently he can tell by the shape of the bump. His credentials? He's 6 for 6 on predictions for his own kids.

Baby Shower!

Friday was my amazing baby shower, hosted by the lovely Patti. Nugget and I were very spoiled by everyone and think we are very lucky to have such great friends. We had wonderful food, played fun games, enjoyed a fantastic cake and got pink fabric paint all up the wall. Thank you everyone for making it such a special day I will always remember.

Baby school graduates

We just finished our intensive weekend crash course on all things baby. The classes were at the Prentice Women's Hospital which was great as - unless something very unplanned happens at the shower in Lombard - that's where we'll be delivering. You can see above the hungry looking dolls from the breastfeeding class. The classes were great and a tour was included, so at least we know where the cafeteria is now. It's only 3 blocks from home, so right now the plan is to walk.

Pizza with Mia

My trip back home in March was pretty special for a few reasons. I had the opportunity to show off my bump in Exeter, I got to spend some time with Jamie before he went off to Afghanistan and also met Mia, my god daughter, for the first time! Here's a couple of photos of Mia aged about 4 months. What a cutie!

This weekend Matt and I are off to baby school, learning everything from baby CPR to the breathing stuff we'll need sometime soon... better take some good notes...
